The Open Road
Â
I write this weekâs blog from a coffee shop in the Ramada Inn that I rolled into last night at 1am, somewhere between Des Moines and Davenport, Iowa. My destination: St Catharines, Ontario. As I mentioned in a prior edition of this blog, my daughter and I are living up there for the summer because she wanted to play girls box lacrosse this summer.
Â
The Stones
Â
Lucyâs first box tourney isnât until next weekend, and it feels a little crazy to be leaving Colorado for the summer on May 18th, but I have one of the sickest guyâs trip ever planned so I had to leave a week early. Three buddies and I are going to the Rolling Stones in London, England on Tuesday night! Itâs on my bucket list! Iâve never seen the StonesâŚI actually grew up a Beatles fan, and converted in 1991 during my first year as an...

A New Beginning and an End of an Era
Â
Spring brings renewed life, flowers, warm weather and a feeling of âItâs great to be aliveâ like none other. And as the we get deeper into spring, it also brings the end of a season, the end of a school year, graduations and goodbyes to seniors. We are all so lucky to have spring, lacrosse and our teams in our lives!

Yale - UMass
Â
In a rematch from an early season Yale victory, this is going to be a street fight of a game. Greg Canellaâs Minutemen have won 12 games this year and are averaging 12 goals/game. Yale is the favorite for good reason - they have Ben Reeves, Tewaaraton Finalist (who is also âwicked Smahtâ) leading their offense which is averaging 14 goals per game.Yale head coach Andy Shay has done it all in the regular season, but has yet to have the k...

Happy Cinco De Mayo! I canât believe itâs May already! Where does the time go? Itâs the last weekend of the NCAA DI regular season with selection Sunday coming up! The weather is getting nice and so is the college lacrosse. Whatâs better than turning on ESPNU during tournament time?!?!
Â
Yale 21 Penn 6
Â
Holy $&%# what a beat down that was! Did you hear the post game comments from Matt Gaudet? Something like, âWe donât like Penn.â I love it! The Hamilton, Ontario product scored 7 goals in that game. He also said, âAmerican goalies are not used to âTwistersâ âŚ. All you kids out there, learn how to shoot twisters!
Â
Yale Lacrosse
Â
What Andy Shay has done at Yale has been amazing. Arguably the best coach in Division I Lacrosse, Shay has been incredibly consistent over the past 8 years with 5 NCAA Tourn...

Notre Dame 14 - Duke 11
Â
With their backs against the wall and a fully healthy offense, the Irish prevailed in the ACC Semi-Final over Duke 14-11. Costabile and Gleason in the midfield for ND give them such an offensive punch of dodging, playmaking, and athleticism. They are a totally different team with those two healthy. And Ryder Garnsey with 5 Gâs! Such a fun player to watch! Garnsey uses hesitation moves as well as any player in college lacrosse right now! Watch and learn!
Â
Notre Dame Defense
Â
Position, posture, and head turnsâŚ.these are the visible traits of NDâs defense. Communication is the invisible glue. Nobody on the planet does a better job of scaling these fundamentals than Gerry Byrne!

Virginia 11 - Syracuse 10

The Virginia seniors who hadnât won an ACC game in their careers ar...

Big College Lacrosse Weekend!
Â
Johns Hopkins/Penn State
Â
This game has huge implications for the Big 10 Tourney. Right now, Michigan is clearly 6th place. Maryland and Hopkins are both 2-0 and in the drivers seat. PSU/OSU/RUT are all fighting for 2 spots. What a tough league! JHU is getting saves, winning face offs and Coach Benson has the offense playing their classic invert, spaghetti motions with some super slick players! PSU looked tough against MD last week! Should be a great tilt!
Â
UNC/Syracuse
Â
Need them Heels to get a dub! Of course Iâm totally biased here, but it is do or die for UNC.Theyâve been pretty banged up and with a âNext guy upâ approach they have had some great performances out of nowhere, like Matt Gavinâs 3 goal performance last week.Syracuse is coming off a loss to Cornell mid...

Denver/Nova
Â
Holy cow what a beat down that was! I donât think anyone saw 22-6 coming! Ethan Walker, a Canadian from Peterborough, ON scored 8 goals and is leading Division I with 38 for the season in ten games. Iâm going to have to go back and watch this dismantling on demandâŚ.Just to see the precision of Denver. This is the Pioneers at their best: 27/30 on face offs, shooting 51%, giving up 6 goals on 34 shots, ridiculous ball control, and physical team defense resulting in 6 goals and 7 saves. Wow! Is there a better tandem than Bill Tierney and Matt Brown? These guys show the world how to coach lacrosse!
Â
Summer of 2013
Â
Speaking of Ethan Walker, in the summer of 2013 we launched 3d Canada, a club team made up of the best â97âs and â98 birth years (everything is birth years in Canada) and I coache...

UNC-Duke
Â
A great âHappy Hourâ game last night, played in front of the biggest crowd ever for a Duke Lacrosse game. I wanted the Heels to win so badly! Thereâs something about a Friday night game that me so happy too! After a hard week of busting your butt, itâs so great to be able to sit down and watch a high level college lacrosse game to kick of âA Lacrosse Weekend!" The Heels probably did enough good things to win that game, but in the end they had a few too many give aways. Duke grinded out a good W, were opportunistic at times but also had the best player on the field in Justin Gutterding. How about that kid scoring his 300th point last night? And he still has a bunch more games in his career!
