Inside The 8 Podcasts with Colleen Magarity

This week Colleen got back at it with two new women's lacrosse podcasts that I think you will love.  First with Jacksonville Assistant Coach, Mike Bedford and then with Pitt Head Coach Emily Boissonaeult.  Colleen and her guests discussed their respective lacrosse journeys, philosophies on building culture, team offense, team defense, favorite drills and of course, college lacrosse recruiting.  Colleen will be doing podcasts regularly and get an insider's view from many of the top coaches in the game!  Thanks to Colleen for creating this amazing women's lacrosse content.

In Season Podcast, Episode 3

PLL Chaos Head Coach Andy Towers and I dive into the best players, coaches, match ups, and as analysis on why these teams are trending!  This past week Andy apologized to Yale fans and Josh McHugh for picking BU over Yale, "I hit the nail squarely on the side" said Towers, but at least he goes out on a limb!

If you listen to this podcast you will get a level of analysis you won't get on any other college lacrosse podcasts because we're coaches and we love to watch, talk about and analyze DI Lacrosse!

The best part of the "In Season" Podcast is Towers is hilarious!  The things he thinks of and says are insanely funny!  I hope you...

In Season Podcast

The In Season Podcast with PLL Chaos Head Coach Andy Towers is back!  We have recorded two episodes and they are worth a listen!  We decided to start mid season because talking about the same thing for 15 weeks was just going to get boring!  We are fired up to be back and AT and I are having a great time talking about Division I Men's Lacrosse.  I think you will find this podcast to be the both detailed (AT literally watches every game!) with great analysis of players, X's and O's, as well as great insights and back stories.  Oh yeah, and you'll enjoy some classic tomfoolery as well!  Click here to listen!

Advice To Lacrosse Parents

I work with a ton of individual athletes and their parents to help them plan a strategy and roadmap for two big picture topics: player development and exposure.  The biggest piece of advice I give parents is don't listen to what other parents tell you, instead do your homework!  Of course, it's always good to hear other people's perspectives, but you are going to run across a lot of opinions on what you should do with your kids for development and exposure coming from people who are not experts.

Many parents played college lacrosse, might have been a great player back in the day or they simply "Know the game" because they're from...

JM3 And Mass Bay Youth Lacrosse Team up!

I am excited to announce that JM3 Sports is working on a pilot program of coach education for seven MBYLL boys and girls towns this spring.  JM3 has created online courses and content detailing cutting edge coaching philosophy, videos of drills and games, as well as practice plans, which will be supplemented each week in office hour Zoom calls where the focus will be on helping coaches optimize practice environments through watching film from practice.

I have probably done more remote coaching in the sport of lacrosse than anyone on the planet and this is what I've...

The Huberman Lab Podcast

This podcast, by Dr Andrew Huberman, is a fascinating look at the science behind the power of free play.  In the past five years I have been on my own journey with Free Play as a coach, as a player, as a dad, and of course with my JM3 Athletes.  I have witnessed countless athletes blossom in amazing and even unexpected ways through the power of Free Play.

Huberman explains that play is an "important, fundamental, homeostatic-ally regulated aspect of our nervous system, which is a mouthful of nerd speak to say, play can change your brain for the better, and...

The Dodger's Advantage In 2man Game

There are many advantages in utilizing 2man games that have been well documented statistically by the likes of Joe Keegan, writer and analyst for the PLL.  I too have expounded upon 2man games regularly on my podcast, blog and of course in the men's and women's JM3 Coaches Training Program.

Two man game advantages:

  • Forces the defense to read, make  decisions, and communicate
  • Creates "Addition by Subtraction" pulling a defender out of the slide package opening up skip lanes and backside space
  • A pick is an obstacle in the path of the on ball defender in the "No switch" situation
  • Easiest way to get two...

A Season In A Box

It's finally March and it's finally lacrosse season so I decided to put together a written form of the JM3 Season In A Box with special help from my good friend Tony Holler from Feed The Cats.

I have had a lot of questions about how I intertwine Free Play, Principles Based Lacrosse, and Feed The Cats Philosophy combined with an in season team that needs to prepare and win games.  Below are the answers you've been looking for!

The blog today has a ton of cutting edge concepts that will get you introduced to the Principles Based Lacrosse, the newly added content in the Coaches Training Program will teach you everything you need to implement and execute.

Shooting Where The Goalie Is

I continue to marvel at the genius of Jeff Teat and the subtle details of his game that he displays every time he plays..  The intangibles of his game including deception, anticipation, reading the play, poise are truly what make him great.

One thing I've been interested in lately is the way Teat uses his sidearm swing angle to make a goalie think he's shooting far side and while he pulls it nearside and actually shoots it right where the goalie is, knowing the goalie will move out of the way!

Here's another example of Teat Shooting Where He Is on a breakaway!

If you want to know how to...

The Greatest Play Ever Invented

PLL Chaos Head Coach Andy Towers is one of the best and smartest lacrosse minds in the game and I’ve learned a lot from him over the years.  While I’m very much a motion oriented coach, I do think there is room for a change up that can create a great set piece that is dependent on drawing a slide.  This 141 top dodging play, called “The AT Look” and what AT himself calls a “41” is as good as it gets, IF you can draw a slide and IF you can master the scripted spacing, reads and ball movement!

Last night Richmond ran this look a couple times against UNC and scored two first half goals!
