Shooting Where The Goalie Is

I continue to marvel at the genius of Jeff Teat and the subtle details of his game that he displays every time he plays..  The intangibles of his game including deception, anticipation, reading the play, poise are truly what make him great.

One thing I've been interested in lately is the way Teat uses his sidearm swing angle to make a goalie think he's shooting far side and while he pulls it nearside and actually shoots it right where the goalie is, knowing the goalie will move out of the way!

Here's another example of Teat Shooting Where He Is on a breakaway!

If you want to know how to...

The Greatest Play Ever Invented

PLL Chaos Head Coach Andy Towers is one of the best and smartest lacrosse minds in the game and I’ve learned a lot from him over the years.  While I’m very much a motion oriented coach, I do think there is room for a change up that can create a great set piece that is dependent on drawing a slide.  This 141 top dodging play, called “The AT Look” and what AT himself calls a “41” is as good as it gets, IF you can draw a slide and IF you can master the scripted spacing, reads and ball movement!

Last night Richmond ran this look a couple times against UNC and scored two first half goals!

JM3 Hires Mike O'Neil

I'm thrilled to announce the hiring of Mike O'Neil to join me and JM3 Sports.  Mike is simply one of the best people and best coaches in the sport and I'm excited for what he will bring to JM3 Athletes, families and the coaches / programs we work with.

O'Neil is a 2014 Cornell grad where he was a four year starting two-way midfielder winning 3 Ivy Championships and competing in the 2013 Final Four.  Mike also played as a SSDM for the PLL Chrome and the MLL Rattlers / Blaze.  I hired Mike in 2015 at 3d Colorado and also as my Defensive Coordinator at Mountain Vista HS in 2016-17.

Phi-Lacrosse-ophy Podcast

Nick Myers, Head Coach The Ohio State University and I had an awesome unscripted lacrosse conversation that I think you will love!  We talked about his two boys and the way he's trying to help them develop through a lot of back yard and driveway sports.  Box lacrosse is a topic we discussed at length and on many different aspects of box lacrosse including why he likes to recruit Canadian defenders.  We finish off the conversation talking about trends he's seeing in Division I lacrosse on both sides of the ball as well as a lot about PLL Head Coach Andy Towers and the Chaos offense.  I hope you enjoy the Nick Myers Podcast!

UVA Head Lacrosse Coach Lars Tiffany and I go way back.  We were captains together of the 1989 Brown Lacrosse team, came up through the coaching ranks together, and have been great friends for over 30 years.  This podcast is an outstanding, unscripted lacrosse conversation, just like the lax conversations we've had since the mid 90's when we both committed to coaching.  I'm pumped to share it with you guys because it's an example of how LT and I learn and share lacrosse!  For me over the years, I have learned a lot of lacrosse by having conversations with any and every lacrosse player/coach/expert I can and hearing their take on the...

Learning From A JM3 Athlete

Often times in my blog I use film clips of college, NLL, PLL or WPLL players to highlight interesting skills that I want my teams, my JM3 Athletes, and blog subscribers to know about and perhaps experiment with.  Today, I will breakdown a few clips of a JM3 Athlete / Duke commit, Jack Pappendick, who has some sick highlights from the Best In Class Committed Showcase.

If you want more information about the JM3 Athlete Program, email me at [email protected] or click here to apply!

Pick up Game Highlights of 2021

One of my favorite projects of the year is to go back and re-watch 12 months worth of pick up games to produce this montage of sick backyard lacrosse plays with my daughter Lucy who does the edit.  You will notice boys and girls playing together. The girls are slick as hell and boys want them on their team!.  There is a mix of ages too: college kids playing with high school kids, or high school kids playing with middle school kids and there are even a few old guys out there!   All of us playing the Creator's Game!  The level of lacrosse and team play is both undeniable and extremely...

 Phi-Lacrosse-ophy Podcast

This week my guest was Terry Foy, CEO of Inside Lacrosse who I often refer to as "the smartest man in lacrosse."  Terry and I talk about a very important topic: The Multi Sport Athlete.   We dig into the positives of being a multi sport athlete as well as the challenges of being a multi sport athlete.  In the end, kids are faced with decisions as to when or if to specialize and focus on lacrosse.  College coaches say they want multi sport athletes, but do they actually want multi sport athletes?  Or as Patrick McEwen aka @laxFilmRoom so aptly states, "College coaches want former multi sport athletes."

Kevin Corrigan, Head Coach, Notre Dame University

I LOVE talking lacrosse with KC!  Such a smart guy, and fun to talk lacrosse with!  I've learned a lot of lacrosse from Kevin Corrigan: as a young coach I studied the way ND played offense and defense; when I was done coaching at Denver i had the opportunity to visit ND several times, I've had numerous sit down white board (Or dinner napkin) X's and O's sessions, as well as fairly regular phone conversations where we talk shop.  I always learn!

I think you will love this podcast where we discuss what he's been doing lately to sharpen his saw, how to teach the full field game, the...
